Cut VAT to boost post-Olympic tourism
Marketing agency VisitBritain calls for tax cuts to encourage tourism growth
VAT CUTS are needed to supplement the feel-good factor created by the Olympics and boost tourism.
VisitBritain, which today launches a consultation on growing inbound tourism to 40 million from 31 million by 2020, will say that the perception of the UK abroad has been boosted following the games – however, the benefits to tourism will not be realised without an active strategy.
The marketing agency wants VAT on tourism services cut to encourage more visitors, which in turn would lead to job creation and eventually greater tax receipts.
Chairman Christopher Rodrigues told The Times that the strategy was “not a gamble”.
