CABA appoints Wade as new president
Richard Wade takes the presidency at the Chartered Accountants' Benevolent Association
THE CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS’ BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION (CABA) has appointed Richard Wade as its new president, after Nick Brooks finished his term.
Wade qualified in 1972 with Coopers & Lybrand, spending more than 30 years at the company, taking in stints in London, the Midlands and Zambia.
In the absence of any welfare state, in 1886 – six years after the ICAEW was founded – CABA was set up with the aim of providing a safety net for chartered accountants in need. Today, it provides support services to ICAEW members and their dependents.
Wade became involved in CABA in 2007 as a trustee and, most recently, has been vice president of the charity, and chair of the charity’s Support Services Committee.
He was elected CABA’s board of trustees and took office at this week’s annual general meeting. He will serve for a maximum of three years.
Wade said: “I am very honoured to be elected to this position. CABA has a unique and valuable position within our profession, and being part of its activities is a privilege.
“During the last few years, excellent work has been done to extend the services that the charity offers and we intend to continue along similar lines in the future, making CABA as relevant as possible to the needs of all chartered accountants.
“I would also like to express my thanks to the outgoing president, Nick Brooks, as I am sure would many others across the profession. His contribution to CABA as president has been outstanding.”
