EY's Liz Bingham leads New Year's Honours for the profession
Recognition for Liz Bingham, Sir Adrian Cadbury, HMRC staff and public sector finance professionals in the Queen's New Year's Honours list
EY’s managing partner for talent Liz Bingham leads the New Year’s Honour’s list for the profession.
Bingham, a member of EY’s UK & Ireland leadership team, has been awarded an OBE for services to equality in the workplace. She began her career straight from school 30 years ago, and has previously led EY’s corporate restructuring practice.
In her current role she is is responsible for the firm’s employer brand strategy as it relates to its people, clients and communities in which it operates.
Bingham said she was “incredibly proud and humbled” to have been nominated for the honour.
“I am passionate about equality in the workplace and firmly believe that diverse and inclusive organisations draw on the broadest range of talent, which enables them to attract and retain the best people and seek out the widest spectrum of views.
“Equality isn’t simply about the number of women around the boardroom table…At its heart diversity is about recognising, celebrating and fostering difference.”
Sir Adrian Cadbury, the former chairman of Cadbury and Cadbury Schweppes who led reforms to corporate governance, was made a companion of honour. He published the Cadbury Report in 1992, which outlined steps to tighten up governance through a ‘comply or explain approach’, following a number of business scandals during the 1980s.
Business tax director at HMRC, Jim Harra, was named a companion of the Order of the Bath, alongside Office of Tax Simplification chairman Michael Jack.
OBEs were awarded to Andrew Webb, HMRC indirect tax senior policy director. Christopher Ridley, lately director of financial management at the House of Commons, was awarded an OBE for services to public finance and campanology.
Scottish Prison Service finance manager William Thomson was awarded an OBE for services to the criminal justice system.
Personal tax operations handler at HMRC, Barrie Quinn, was awarded an MBE for services to customers and voluntary service in Newcastle. Linda Wheeler, senior officer in HMRC’s advisory team in Bootle, was awarded an MBE for services to tax collection and voluntary service to education in Liverpool.
York-based Lesley Strathie, executive officer in DWP’s finance group, was awarded an MBE for services to public administration and to young people in North Yorkshire for girlguiding.
