Knill James scoops tax staff as Mazars' Brighton office closes

Lewes-based Knill James picks up five Mazars tax experts from the top ten firm's former Brighton office

FIVE former Mazars tax staff have joined Lewes-based Knill James, as the top ten firm has closed its doors in Brighton.

The recruits take Knill James’ tax team to ten, and it now employs more than 60 staff.Knill James’ hires are Lorna Sizer (senior manager, personal tax); private client experts Kirsty Royds-Jones and Sarah Robinson; Alison Sampson (senior VAT advisor); and Michael Chapman (senior manager, corporate tax).

Knill James partner Nick Rawson said: “We are delighted to welcome all five to our expanding tax team at Knill James. They bring with them a tremendous amount of experience and expertise, and their arrival is a real coup for the firm.”

The six-partner firm was formed in 1887 by H H Knill in London, before moving to East Sussex a few years later.

Mazars has consolidated its client service teams in the South East, with Brighton staff moving to its Sutton office. “We believe that by bringing our South East teams together, clients will benefit from a more integrated approach and a wider service offering,” said a Mazars spokeswoman in a statement.

More than two-thirds of Mazars’ 35 Brighton staff have remained with the firm following the office closure. “We remain wholly committed to our local client base and to the Brighton and the wider Sussex business community. We are also actively involved in a number of local initiatives, including remaining a key sponsor of the Sussex Business Awards,” the spokeswoman added.

Mazars is ninth in the Accountancy Age Top 50+50 Survey of firms, with £132.6m in fee income.
