The Mid-Tier Power Index 2022: Full rankings revealed!

The second and final wave of results in Accountancy Age’s brand new ranking, the Mid-Tier Power Index (MTPI), has been revealed.

Today’s announcement includes the full ranking, which can be viewed here.

The inaugural MTPI ranking seeks to reward and recognise mid-tier firms in the UK that champion true accountancy excellence, with organisations being judged on four key categories: Strategic Planning, Profitability/Growth, Professional Excellence, People & Community.

MTPI highlights

Performing admirably across all four categories and emerging as the overall winner of the ranking was London and Midlands-based firm Cooper Parry. The firm particularly excelled in its approach to Professional Excellence, proving that it recognises the significance of both client and employee satisfaction.

In second place, Lamont Pridmore impressed the judges in the Profitability & Growth category. The firm has undertaken an ambitious shift towards advisory services in recent years, and has enjoyed 16% growth during the past financial year.

In third, Moore Kingston Smith boasted an especially progressive approach to Strategic Planning. In a profession dominated by data and technology, human touch sits at the heart of the firm, it said.

Fourth place is occupied by North London’s Grunberg & Co, who also set an example in the Professional Excellence cateogry. The firm has used the pandemic as an opportunity to rid itself of a one-size-fits all approach to service delivery, developing services that meet each client’s most pressing need.

What is the MTPI?

The new ranking is designed to place the spotlight on the UK accountancy industry’s mid-tier. Firms are judged and ranked on a series of qualitative criteria, rather than quantitative metrics alone such as fee income.

Our entrants have been carefully judged by a panel of experts from across the UK accountancy industry, including partners, directors and chief executives from a selection of leading accounting firms and professional bodies. They are as follows:

  • Rakesh Shaunak – Managing partner and group chairman, MHA MacIntyre Hudson
  • Glenn Collins – Interim head, the Association for Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • Subarna Banerjee – Managing partner, UHY Hacker Young
  • Paul Ginman – COO and global head of quality, Nexia International
  • Aaran Fronda – Managing editor, Accountancy Age

The Mid-Tier Power Index will join Accountancy Age’s portfolio of industry-leading rankings, sitting alongside the annual 35 under 35 and 50+50.
