Menzies boosts leadership with four internal partner promotions

Menzies LLP has promoted four senior staff to partner, including leaders in financial services, transfer pricing, retail, and tax disputes, reflecting the firm’s internal talent development and ongoing expansion across the UK.

Menzies has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of four new partners, reflecting the firm’s ongoing growth and commitment to developing talent from within. The promotions span key sectors and service lines, covering financial services, transfer pricing, retail, and tax disputes.

Mike Ayres, now Financial Services sector lead at the firm’s Farnborough office, joined Menzies nearly 15 years ago after leaving a role in high street finance. He trained alongside college graduates to become a Chartered Accountant in 2015 and has overseen 220% growth in the firm’s Financial Services sector over the past six years.

Saumyanil Deb, Transfer Pricing service line lead in the London office, joined Menzies in April 2024 following senior positions at PwC and EY in the UK and US. In just over a year, he has launched and expanded the firm’s Transfer Pricing team, advising multinational businesses across technology, engineering, manufacturing, life sciences, and retail on risk assessment, policy development, implementation, benchmarking, audit defence, and dispute resolution.

Martin Hamilton, appointed Retail sector lead, also heads Menzies’ London Accounts team and the Australia Desk, supporting companies establishing operations in the UK. Hamilton joined the firm in 2008 through the acquisition of Hampton Wick’s Carton Garrigan. Having qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2017, he has since progressed to lead multiple teams and actively participates in Menzies’ Access Accountancy programme, which provides work experience for Year 10 students from underrepresented backgrounds.

Matthew Watkins, Tax Disputes service line lead at the London office, joined Menzies in September 2022 to build the team from scratch. Drawing on experience from BDO, Moore Stephens, and Grant Thornton, he provides clients with strategic guidance across tax investigations, helping resolve cases efficiently. Watkins has been recognised as a rising talent in the industry, having featured in ePrivateclient’s 35 Under 35 in 2017 and Accountancy Age’s 35 Under 35 in 2019.

Simon Massey, Managing Partner at Menzies LLP, said:

“These appointments are testament to the individual achievements of each new partner, and they also reflect our ongoing commitment to internal progression and delivering exceptional client service. Each new partner embodies our ‘Brighter Thinking’ approach, bringing fresh ideas, deep expertise, and a client-first mindset to everything that they do. As Menzies continues to grow across the UK, their sector and service line specialisms will help shape our future, and I’m confident that they will continue to make a significant impact on both our clients and our people as we scale.”

The firm now counts 22 partners across its UK offices.
