Businesses could face new anti-discrimination legislation unless they place more non-white applicants in managerial jobs, according to the chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality.
Gurbux Singh’s comments may alarm businesses, already fearful of high red tape levels, with the potential for them being accused of discrimination.
According to reports, Singh, said businesses showed ‘complacency’ against employment policies, which made it five times harder for ethnic minority graduates to find suitable jobs than their white peers.
He added business had made no progress in increasing the number of non-whites in management since the publication of a report called ‘Moving On Up’, two years ago, which found only 1% of senior managers came from ethnic minorities.
