TAXPAYERS affected by an issue with the government’s online gateway will be granted ‘reasonable excuse provisions’ by HM Revenue & Customs.
The problems arose with the Government Gateway – run by the Department for Work and Pensions – on Monday, preventing taxpayers from submitting data to HMRC and other departments.
Users were able to enter data, but not send it.
The issues were resolved on Monday, HMRC confirmed, and while it believes only a very small number of people were affected, those affected will be granted reasonable excuse provisions.
A government spokesperson said: “We were aware of the issue affecting some online services on Monday. The problem was resolved that afternoon, and customers should have no problem using these services.”
